My name is Ainsley Stephens and I am a junior at Lambert High School. I have been a dancer for 14 years and 3 years ago I began working as a dance teacher assistant. That job made me realize I really love working with kids and I already knew that I loved helping people. So combining these two passions I have decided I would like to become a psychologist. Knowing these two passions, I intern with the Forsyth County Schools Student Support Services with Mrs. Simpson, who is a Prevention Specialist. Mrs. Simpson has been working on developing prevention programs to raise awareness for mental health. While working with Mrs Simpson, I have been able to sit in on some of her meetings where she, along with other professionals, discuss and begin to establish mental health programs as a response to the increase in mental health issues, like suicidal ideation, self injurious behavior, anxiety, and depression. She has also allowed me to offer feedback on a project she is leading this year called Teen Maze. This is an event where teens will draw scenarios like drunk driving or substance abuse and then the students will experience the consequences of these mistakes by going to court or to jail.
